John E. Spurlin (Confederate soldier) · Historystrong John E. Spurlin (1841–1861) was a Rutherford County, North Carolina, farmer. He enlisted in the 16th North Carolina Infantry in 1861 and, according to the regimental roster, died of typhoid fever at Warrenton, Virginia, that December; a 1937 county history gives a different date and place.
Spurlins Ferry and Spurlin Cemetery (Garland County, Arkansas) · Placesmixed Garland County, Arkansas, near Hot Springs, has two Spurlin-named sites: a historical river crossing that GNIS records as Spurlins Ferry, and Spurlin Cemetery on Papas Trail, a family burial ground with about 160 Find a Grave memorials whose earliest dated burial is from about 1890. A family tradition links the cemetery's Spurlins to a James Spurlin said to have been killed at Hot Springs in the 1840s.
