  Daniel Spurlin (1807–1868) was a North Carolina-born blacksmith who settled in Union Township, Hardin County, Iowa, in 1851. He was killed in a sleigh accident on his way home from church meetings, is buried in Hauser Cemetery at Whitten, and county histories and newspapers record his family.
