Daniel R. Spurlin (Vietnam War)
First Lieutenant Daniel Raymond Spurlin (1942–1968) of Atlanta was a U.S. Army adviser with MACV Advisory Team 92. He was killed by small-arms fire in Go Cong Province, South Vietnam, on September 19, 1968, and is buried in Sandy Springs, Georgia.

Daniel Raymond Spurlin (December 19, 1942 – September 19, 1968) was a U.S. Army officer killed in the Vietnam War.[1] He is the only person surnamed Spurlin among the names on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial, according to the Virtual Wall's alphabetical index.[2]
Service and death
The Virtual Wall lists Spurlin as a first lieutenant in the Army of the United States, with a home of record in Atlanta, Georgia.[1] He was assigned to Advisory Team 92, Headquarters, MACV Advisors, part of the Military Assistance Command, Vietnam, which advised South Vietnamese forces.[1] His tour began on April 2, 1968.[1] He died on September 19, 1968, at age 25, in Go Cong Province. The record classifies the death as hostile: a ground casualty from gun or small-arms fire, died outright, with the body recovered.[1] The Honor States profile (service ID 5335208) likewise describes the death as hostile action by small-arms fire.[3]
Burial
A Find a Grave memorial places his grave in Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs, Fulton County, Georgia. It records a Purple Heart and transcribes the inscription as "GEORGIA 1ST LT ADVISORY TEAM 75 VIETNAM PH". That team number differs from the Advisory Team 92 given in the casualty records above.[4]

His name is on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, D.C., at Panel 43W, Line 43 (the Virtual Wall writes it as Panel W43).[1][5] The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund's Wall of Faces page for him gives his birth date, casualty date, home of record (Atlanta, Fulton County, Georgia), casualty province (Go Cong), branch (Army) and rank (1LT). The page holds one photo and remembrances left by visitors.[5] His Honor States profile lists the Purple Heart, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Army Presidential Unit Citation and Vietnam Gallantry Cross. Honor States cautions that its award lists may be incomplete and are sometimes inferred from "probability factors based on known service details".[3]
