Spurlin whirlpool baths were acrylic jetted bathtubs made by Spurlin Industries of Palmetto, Georgia, and sold through plumbing wholesalers under model names such as Count, Countess, Duke, Balmoral, Swan and Crown.

Product line

In 2003 the company's website listed about thirty acrylic whirlpool models over four catalog pages. Most were offered either as a plain tub or with a whirlpool system, with a list price for each.[3] The models were the Prince, Princess, Majesty, Victoria, Count, Countess, Heart, Sultan, Emperor, Tara, Baron, Baroness, Dunrobin, Biltmore, Hearst, Buckingham, Windsor, Campbell, Duke, Duchess, Buchanan, Winchester, Swan, Balmoral, Chatsworth, Arundel, Edinburgh, Kensington, Viscount, Marquis and Crown.[3] Leaving aside the Crown, list prices ranged from $603 (a plain Campbell or Winchester) to $2,217 (a Prince or Majesty with the whirlpool system).[3]

The most expensive model was the Crown, a two-person whirlpool listed at $5,080.[3][4] The company's "New Products" page advertised a waterfall spout, two large hydro-massage jets and six adjustable jets, a three-speed 1½ hp pump, a heater, an electronic touch pad, a mood light, and a "patented motor mount system" and "patented leveling system".[4] A 1996 patent assigned to Spurlin Industries covers an adjustable mounting platform for a whirlpool pump.[5]

Surviving specification sheets give the details of individual models. The Countess measured 59½ × 35½ × 22½ inches and had five jets. The Swan measured 58⅞ × 31⅝ × 21¾ inches and had three jets. Both used a ¾ hp pump rated at 72 gallons per minute on a 115-volt circuit protected by a ground-fault circuit interrupter. The sheets warned that Spurlin tubs were not meant for jets to be added after purchase and that drilling extra holes would void the warranty.[6][7]

Warranty and parts

The company's care and warranty page, in a 2008 printout distributed through Ferguson, covered the tub shell against defects in the finish for one year and in the structure for five years. The whirlpool system was covered for one year, except for parts made by other manufacturers, and the buyer had to return a warranty card.[8] Aftermarket suppliers still sell replacement jets, jet nozzles and pumps described as used in Spurlin whirlpool tubs.[9]

Distribution

Spurlin tubs were sold through the national plumbing distributor Ferguson, but in September 2026 Ferguson's online catalog showed no products under its Spurlin Industries brand filter.[10] A Southern Pipe & Supply product page for Spurlin model code SRCOUNTWWH also reported the item unavailable.[11]

Trademarks

Spurlin Industries registered a faucet-and-water design mark for whirlpool bath and shower units in 1995. The registration was cancelled in 2020. Its 1993 application for THE PLUMBERS DEPOT was abandoned before registration (see Spurlin trademarks).[2][12]
