Tight end Pearce Spurlin III has come up in several Reddit threads. When he committed to Georgia in September 2020, an r/georgiabulldogs post linked the DawgNation report. Marching bands

Corey Spurlin, director of the Auburn University Marching Band, was discussed in April 2015 when he was a finalist to lead the Ohio State University Marching Band. On April 1 a poster from Ohio State asked Auburn band members on r/auburn what he was like.^[4] On April 20 an r/CFB post said that Spurlin had turned Ohio State down and linked a report in Ohio State's student newspaper, The Lantern. The post had 101 points when it was archived.^[5] The Lantern reported on April 21 that he was no longer a candidate.^[6] In a December 2019 r/rolltide thread about Alabama's Million Dollar Band, one commenter credited Auburn's halftime shows partly to Spurlin's energy and his attention to what crowds respond to. Another wrote that Auburn's 2016 space-themed show was the best halftime show they had seen.^[7]

Military and television

Air Force combat controller Ashley Spurlin came up while he was a contestant on the History Channel's Top Shot. An April 2011 r/guns post linked an interview with him.^[8] In a May 2013 r/MilitaryPorn thread, a commenter identified the combat controller in a posted photograph as Ashley Spurlin of Top Shot.^[9]

Dogs

The sidebar of the r/alaskankleekai community says the breed was developed in Alaska in the 1970s by Linda Spurlin, as a lap-sized version of the Alaskan huskies that ran in the Iditarod. The community had about 4,000 readers when archived in July 2025.^[10] A June 2025 post in r/HuskyTantrums repeated this breed history. In the replies, one commenter wrote that Spurlin had said she regretted breeding Schipperkes into the line because they passed on skittishness.^[11]

In 2026 an r/ThriftStoreHauls post showed a Ken Spurlin puzzle box bought for $2. Google listed it with 354 upvotes.^[12]
According to its Google search listing, a 2026 post in r/TheMatpatEffect identified the man shown in a clickbait advertisement as World War II veteran Carl Spurlin Dekle.^[13]

Genealogy message boards

Genealogy.com's Spurlin surname board held 95 posts in September 2026. The posts on its first page date from 2005 to 2012. Threads ask about early Spurlins such as Green K. Spurlin (born 1795 in Georgia), Absolom Spurlin, Jeremiah Spurlin's children and a John Spurlin of Virginia and North Carolina (1735). Others trace family lines through Alabama, Louisiana, Mississippi, Arkansas, Texas and Oklahoma.^[14]
Ancestry's Spurlin message board listed 73 threads and 249 messages in September 2026, and its newest thread dated from June 2022. One thread discusses a family history by Quincy Spurlin, apparently the 1987 book A Spurlin Family in America.^[15]
FamilyTreeDNA's Sperling Spurling project page explains the group's working theory: that the name is "believed to be of German or Dutch origin", a form of Sperling ("sparrow"), with possible British lines as well. The German church-records site Archion has a September 2024 forum thread asking for help reading a bride's surname in a 1543 Nuremberg marriage entry. A reply linked a second record, of a marriage involving a Hans Spurle, and read the woman's surname there as "Spurlin", noting that it had also been read as "Spurer".^[17]

Twitch: a channel search for "spurlin" in September 2026 returned only small personal gaming channels. The largest with the name had 75 followers.^[18]
Know Your Meme: a search for "Spurlin" returned no results in September 2026.^[19] The nearest-sounding entry is "Spurdo Spärde", a deliberately crude cartoon bear that began on Finnish imageboards around 2009. It has no connection to the surname.^[20]
