Al Spurlin
Alton Pearce "Al" Spurlin (1914–2000) was an American minor league first baseman from Atlanta who played for the Chattanooga Lookouts in 1935 and the Columbia Senators in 1936.

Alton Pearce "Al" Spurlin (August 22, 1914 – August 17, 2000) was an American minor league baseball first baseman.[1] Baseball-Reference lists him as born and died in Atlanta, Georgia, and buried in Westview Cemetery there.[1]
Playing career
Spurlin batted and threw left-handed. His listed size is 5 ft 11 in and 167 pounds.[1] StatsCrew's roster for the 1935 Chattanooga team gives the same birth date and birthplace and a weight of 165 pounds.[2]
In 1935, at age 20, he played 47 games at first base for the Chattanooga Lookouts of the Class A Southern Association, a Washington Senators affiliate. He had 48 hits in 173 at-bats, a .277 average.[1][2] In 1936 he played 81 games for the Columbia Senators of the Class B South Atlantic League, 80 of them at first base. He batted .278 with 14 doubles, 31 runs batted in and 53 runs scored. He drew 60 walks against 21 strikeouts, which gave him a .407 on-base percentage.[1] His Baseball-Reference register page shows no seasons after 1936.[1]
Burial
A Find a Grave memorial records him as Alton Pearce "Boob" Spurlin, gives the same birth and death dates, and places his grave in Section 25 of Westview Cemetery in Atlanta. It links him to his wife, Nina Mae Kent Spurlin (1915–1991).[3]
Name
His middle name, Pearce, also appears in the name of the modern tight end Pearce Spurlin III. None of the sources consulted connects the two.[1]
