Fictional characters named Spurlin

Science fiction

• Gregg Spurlin appears in Henry Hasse's "City of the Living Flame", published in Planet Stories in fall 1942. In the story the hero, Jim Landor, finds Spurlin in the hidden Martian city of M'Tonak. Spurlin is described as a huge, unshaven man who led a scientific expedition in search of the city three years earlier, and who is now building a spaceship from a newly found metal to escape.^[1] The story was reprinted in the 2025 anthology Amazing Tales Volume 31.^[2]
• Spurlin is a politician in C. J. Cherryh's Regenesis (DAW Books, 2009), a sequel to Cyteen set in her Alliance-Union universe.^[3] In the novel Spurlin is named Proxy Councillor for an interim period and then runs in a contested Council election against Khalid. His office is system defence, and he is described as a post-war admiral who was "never in combat". Later in the book the characters discuss his suspicious death.^[4]

Westerns and historical adventure

• In W. W. Southard's western Bitter Pecos (Bantam, 1984), Ivy Spurlin is a Black cowboy who, the book says, had come to cowboying from a Georgia cotton field. A passage on p. 136 describes him struck by an Apache arrow. Google Books finds the name on eight pages.^[5]
• In Michael Aye's The Hunter (2022), a novel in which the former pirate and wartime privateer Cooper Cain hunts down a new wave of pirates, Spurlin is "the hog man", a marksman who fights alongside Cain's group.^[6]

Romance

• In Pamela K. Forrest's River of Dreams (Kensington, 1993), set in 1870s Indiana, the heroine is Elizabeth Spurlin, a schoolteacher with five adopted children who shelters a trapper named Daniel. Google Books finds "Spurlin" on 20 pages.^[7]
• Francelle Spurlin, a neighbour addressed as Mrs. Spurlin, appears on about ten pages of Pamela Browning's Rancher's Double Dilemma (Harlequin American Romance no. 922, 2002), which is set in Mosquito, Texas.^[8]

Television and film

IMDb's character search for "Spurlin" returned four results in September 2026: Marked Personal, two of its episodes, and Johnny Has A Visitor.^[9]

• Brenda Spurlin, played by Stella Tanner, appears in episodes 23 and 24 of Marked Personal (1974), a Thames Television afternoon drama set in a large company's personnel department.^[10][11]
• Agent Natasha Spurlin, played by Chloe Schwinghammer, is a character in Jace Elton's short film Johnny Has A Visitor (2022).^[12]

Near misses and fan uses

• The town in the 1957 film Man in the Shadow, directed by Jack Arnold and starring Jeff Chandler and Orson Welles, is called Spurline, not Spurlin, in IMDb's plot summary.^[13][14]
• On TV Tropes, "Spurlin" appears as a pony pun on Berlin in My Little Pony: Friendship Is Magic fan material. A fan-theory page suggests that ponies visiting "Germeney" would go to Spurlin. The page for the fan fiction My Little Earth: Humans Are Special describes a villain who wanted to make Spurlin a unicorn-only state. The word appears in archived copies of both pages from January 2015.^[15][16]
• The first page of results from a cross-wiki search of Fandom in September 2026 showed no fictional Spurlins. The Spurlin pages there are about real people: the Top Shot contestant Ashley Spurlin, the actor Troy Spurlin, and Matt and Courtney Spurlin, players on the Random Encounters podcast.^[17]
