This page collects film and television credits for people surnamed Spurlin, along with a few people connected to the name by marriage or as a middle name. Most of them come from IMDb name pages, which were opened and checked in September 2026. Many are single credits on small productions, so readers should treat them as leads rather than biographies.

Early Hollywood

  • Bert Spurlin (1899–1957) is the earliest person surnamed Spurlin found in film credits. IMDb lists an uncredited props credit on Dinner at Eight (1933) and 22 credits as an assistant director. They include feature films of the 1940s and 1950s such as Above Suspicion (1943), Courage of Lassie (1946) and The Americano (1955), and 88 episodes of the television comedy Our Miss Brooks (1953–1956).[1] TMDb also lists him as assistant director on films including Northwest Passage (1940) and Panama Hattie (1942).[2]
  • Camille Astor (died 1944), an actress in silent films, was known as Camille A. Spurlin after she married the real estate broker DeKalb Spurlin in 1915. Wikipedia says they divorced in 1919. Her films included Cecil B. DeMille's Chimmie Fadden (1915), and she earned an assistant director's credit on The Sowers (1916).[3]

  • Rhett Spurlin is credited on IMDb as "Ben" in one 2019 episode of Bluff City Law. His IMDb biography says this was the first-season finale of the NBC legal drama, and describes him as an actor, singer, guitarist and television production crew member.[4][5] A separate IMDb listing for a Rhett Spurlin credits a production assistant on one episode of The Great Christmas Light Fight. IMDb does not say whether the two listings are the same person.[6]
  • Troy Spurlin has seven acting credits on IMDb from 1995 to 2005. They include "Thug" in Crispy, Crackers, and Beans (1995), guest roles in Suddenly Susan and Kindred: The Embraced (both 1996), the TV film Forget Me Not: The Anne Frank Story (1996), a stage manager in two episodes of The Tom Show (1997), and "Rick" in one episode of George Lopez (2005).[7] A user-edited fan wiki gives his Kindred: The Embraced role as "Jordan" in the 1996 episode "The Nightstalker".[8]
  • Max Spurlin played Bernie in five 2014 episodes of the series Lumber Baron of Jasper County and an FBI agent in the film Blackhats (2015), according to IMDb.[9] He is not the 1940s North Carolina football player Max Spurlin, who died in 2001.[10]
  • Rosemary Spurlin has about a dozen IMDb credits, all of them as a mother ("Momma", "Mamma" or "Mom") in direct-to-video releases and films made between 2006 and 2015, several of which IMDb classes as horror. They include Greed (2006), The 13th of Never (2008), Kill with the Dance (2009), Death Saint (2013) and Coping Mechanisms (2015).[11] Dale Spurlin plays "Stepdad" in two of the same productions, Greed and The 13th of Never.[12]
  • Smaller on-screen credits include Dean Spurlin as Elmer Wilson in Roy 'n' the Rev (2003)[13] and Amber Nicole Spurlin as a bar patron in Cedar Creek.[14]
  • Ashley Spurlin, an Air Force combat controller, is credited as a contestant in 12 episodes of the History Channel competition Top Shot (2011).[15]

Appearing as themselves

  • Susan Spurlin appears as herself in three true-crime programs, according to IMDb: Snapped (2008, as a prosecutor), Forensic Files (2009, as an assistant district attorney) and Southern Fried Homicide (2013, as an assistant DA for Wake County, North Carolina).[16]
  • Virgil Spurlin, Bill Clinton's high-school band director in Hot Springs, Arkansas, is credited as "High School Band Director" in the 1997 TV special Bill Clinton: Rock & Roll President. Archive footage of him was used in an episode of Biography.[17]
  • Carl Spurlin Dekle, the Second World War veteran whose 100th-birthday interview went viral in 2022, is listed on IMDb as Carl Dekle. His credits there are archive footage in several talk programs and a podcast.[18]

Behind the camera

  • Brittany Spurlin is credited as a segment producer on eight episodes of Camp VENN (2021) and as a writer on five episodes of Dare Package (2020).[19]
  • Lance Spurlin works mainly as an assistant director. His IMDb credits include second assistant director on the TV film The Moonlight Murders (2026) and second second assistant director on Neglected (2025), Never Give Up (2023) and the series Eleanor's Bench (2023), as well as several short films.[20]
  • Sherry Spurlin was production coordinator on the short film The Blue Ridge Parkway: America's Favorite Journey (2013).[21]
  • Turner Spurlin has worked as a grip, electrician and gaffer, mostly on short films, with credits from 2016 to 2022. Examples are Chekhov's Gun (2019, key grip) and Duchovny Boy (2020, gaffer). He also has a grip credit on one episode of the miniseries Insignificant Other (2019).[22]
  • Jerome Spurlin was a production assistant and boom operator on one 2020 episode of My Dating Life in LA, and a behind-the-scenes videographer on Doumi Girls (2022).[23] Jesse Spurlin was a grip and boom operator on the film Bicycle Bobby and Elvis (2009).[24] Robert Spurlin was associate producer of the short Nefertiti's Daughters (2015).[25]
  • Two older listings are "thanks" credits only: Charles Spurlin on one episode of the series The Real West[26] and Bill Spurlin on one episode of Frontline.[27]

Fictional characters

IMDb's name search covers real people rather than characters, and a search there for "Spurlin" also returns similar names such as Spurling and Sherlin.[28] Its advanced title search does cover character names, and a character search for "Spurlin" in September 2026 turned up two fictional Spurlins on screen.[29] Stella Tanner played Brenda Spurlin in episodes 23 and 24 of the Thames Television drama Marked Personal (1974),[30] and Chloe Schwinghammer played Agent Natasha Spurlin in Jace Elton's short film Johnny Has A Visitor (2022).[31] Spurlin characters in novels, pulp magazines and other fiction are listed in Fictional characters named Spurlin.

Similar names

IMDb has many credits under the Spurling spelling. They include the English actor David Spurling (1929–2007), known for Hunter (1967), Doomwatch (1970) and Cop Shop (1977);[32] Jonny Spurling, who acted in short films and a TV film in 2014 and 2015;[33] and Stephen Spurling.[34] The documentary maker Morgan Spurlock has a different surname altogether (see Spurlock vs. Spurlin).
