Radio engineering
The best-documented Spurlin in broadcasting is Bill Spurlin, an engineer who worked in Boston radio for about twenty years. He was WBCN's chief engineer in 1971–72, according to a 2011 post by the radio journalist Scott Fybush.[1] By 1985 he was engineer in charge of maintenance and transmission at WGBH-FM, where he co-wrote a trade-magazine account of the station's live digital concert transmission to public radio stations in nine cities.[2] In 1991 Radio World described him as a technical manager at The Christian Science Monitor and a principal of American Digital Radio, a company developing an in-band digital radio system.[3]

In Stanford, Kentucky, the name of Spurlin Funeral Home has been attached to "General Store", a call-in trading show on WPBK-FM. A 2017 Interior Journal article described the show as the station's most popular. The article's photo caption called it "Spurlin Funeral Home's General Store". The article was about the departure of its long-time host, Renee Knies, who was leaving the station to work for a hospice. Nobody named Spurlin presented the show.[4]
