- Walter Scott Spurling, a Republican, ran for the Cleveland County Board of Education in North Carolina in 2022. He was one of seven candidates in the May 17 Republican primary for four seats, and Ballotpedia lists him among the four Republicans on the November 8 general-election ballot. It does not report vote totals for the race.[3] Ballotpedia's page on Cleveland County Schools lists him as a board member whose term ends in 2026.[4] Cleveland County is also where the Howell-Spurlin Cemetery is located.
- Thomas Spurling is listed by Ballotpedia as a member of the Belwood Town Council in Cleveland County, North Carolina. Its page on him was last updated after the 2019 election. He was re-elected on November 5, 2019, when he and challenger Caleb Miller won the two seats on the ballot and fellow incumbent Steen Richard lost.[5][6] Ballotpedia includes the contest in its list of elections decided by ten votes or fewer and records Spurling with 71 votes.[7]
- James T. "Jimmy" Spurling, a Republican, was the incumbent coroner of Catoosa County, Georgia, when he ran for re-election in 2024. He was on the ballot in the May 21 primary and the November 5 general election.[8]
- Ryan Spurling, a Republican, ran for Mason County sheriff in Washington in 2022, appearing in the August 2 primary.[9] He is a candidate for re-election in 2026, with a primary on August 4 and a general election on November 3.[10] He has his own article: Ryan Spurling.
Better-known Spurlings in public life
Sir Dudley Spurling was Speaker of the House of Assembly of Bermuda. His father, the banker and parliamentarian Sir Stanley Spurling (1879–1961), and Sir Stanley's grandson Rick Spurling, a former member of parliament, are covered in Spurlings of Bermuda.[11][12][13] Andrew Barclay Spurling received the Medal of Honor for Civil War cavalry service. Roy Glenwood Spurling led U.S. Army neurosurgery in the Second World War.
